2009 CoRec (7/3) Rules Summary

All CoRec (7/3) teams must have at least three (3) women in the line-up at all times unless playing short-handed. However, more than three woman may play at any time.

Open substitution policy: men can substitute for women and women may substitute for men, keeping in mind that a team must have at least three women at all times. As always, on re-entry, a player must re-enter the game in the same spot in the line-up.

Positions on the field do not require that a man and a woman share the roles of pitcher and catcher. Also, there are no other restrictions on where men and women can play on defense.

Extra Players: If a team decides to bat extra players, there must be an extra man and woman in those positions. A team may not only bat an extra man (or woman).

A team’s batting line-up allows for an open formula, that is, the team may bat any person, regardless of sex, at any spot in the line-up. The team may not switch the line-up once the game has started.

Rules on Walks: When a man walks and is followed in the batting order by another man, he will only receive 1st base and will not advance to 2nd. However, if a man walks and is followed by a woman, then the coed rule will apply and the man will advance to 2nd base. The woman has the option to take first base or proceed with her at bat. Line-up changes announced after the man walks do not affect this rule, i.e, if a man walks and is followed by a man but after he walks the coach announces that he is substituting a woman to bat for the next man, the batter will still be awarded only one base on the walk.
